The Artist: Gerhard Richter
The Show: Lines which do not exist
Gerhard Richter: Exhibition of the artist’s graphite, ink and watercolor drawings at The Drawing Center in New York
September 11 – November 18, 2010
As a painter many critics consider Richter to be unsurpassed among contemporary artists now working. But as this show notes, his drawing practice remains enigmatic and far less well known. The first exhibition of Richter’s drawings in the United States brings together a selection of 50 works on paper from 1966 to 2005. This seldom-exhibited work shows Richter at different stages of his career exploring the pitfalls and potentialities of drawing, revealing another side to his varied practice.
