Floating Pool Would Filter NY River Water for Swimmers

• June 17, 2011 • Comments (0)

Here’s one the coolest, wettest, and most ambitious Kickstarter proposals we’ve seen. Family and Playlab want to design and build a big, floating public swimming pool in one of New York’s rivers.

The pool would be filled with river water–the same stuff it floats in–made sparkling clean by multiple layers of filtration and purification.  The project already has attracted a lot of interest and support, from designers and engineers as well as swimmers who want to enjoy a swim in clean, natural river water in the heart of New York City.

The current fundraising goal of $25,000 won’t build the pool, but it will let the project move forward into testing of various filtration materials. Backers are rewarded with pool toys and accessories. Follow the +Pool project on Kickstarter, or make a pledge!
