Quality gets Kinky
Filed under Artists/InterviewsIn the age of Ikea, Walmart, and Super everything, quality has been relegated to the era of walking uphill both ways in the snow just to get to school. Most of the furniture that populates the living rooms of the western world has a shorter lifespan than our grandparents clothing. Things are meant to be used and then thrown out at the end of their meek life amongst the living. How depressing. Against this backdrop there is a small group of designers who have grown sick of this fast-food culture, and set out to buck the system and bring generational lifespans back to the objects we use everyday. One such designer is Lars Amhoff of Kinkyform . From his homebase in Germany, he initiates collaborations that span continents and bring wonderful cross discipline objects into the world.

Joel McHale at the Moore
1 response - Posted 12.08.08
Seattle native Joel McHale returned home Nov. 29th to perform at the Moore Theatre during his national stand up tour. Fans crowded into the theatre in one of the few cities in the nation where people may actually know McHale for work other than his weekly gig hosting The Soup on E! Entertainment Television. After graduating from the University of ... continue -
Annie Leibovitz an American Icon

[caption id="attachment_1180" align="alignright" width="200" caption="Annie Leibovitz"][/caption] Judging by the crowd outside of Benaroya Hall waiting to see Annie Leibovitz speak on November 19th, it was obvious that Seattle Arts and Lectures was hosting someone big. People stood outside with handmade signs asking for tickets—the scene was more akin to a sporting event or rock concert than what was, essentially, a book ... continue -
John Updike: An Artist Who Loves Art

[caption id="attachment_1143" align="alignright" width="300" caption="John Updike admires Edward Hopper"][/caption] Let’s be honest, John Updike is intimidating. He is an author who can only be described as prolific; one who drew an impressive crowd at Benaroya Hall in what is often described as one of the most literate cities in America. Since his early success in the 1950s, he has continued to ... continue -

Rebelling against standard shower design, the Pluviae, currently in production, designed by Matteo Thun and Partners brings elegance and minimalism to your showering experience. The curvaceous overhead shower design combines form and function, resulting in the sleekest looking shower I've seen in a long time. continue -
Wine. Artist style.

A fusion of two great things, wine and art. Street artist, urban art warfare specialist, and fellow Obama supporter Shepard Fairey has created an awesome wine label for Kenwood Vineyards in California. When I'm at my local QFC, picking up the city's finest in boxed wine, I do always enjoy looking at the labels, and I've got to say this new ... continue -

Election time is almost upon us, and what better way to say "ArtCulture officially endorses Senator Barack Obama for President" then with a collection of my favorite works of Obama art. Whether or not Barack Obama would make a good president, it’s clear that he makes an excellent muse. It’s hard to think of a political candidate in recent memory who ... continue

It's 1952 in America. The war was won, more people have jobs than ever before, and you just bought a house with a white picket fence. Things are on the up and up. Now, fast-forward to 2008. We're neck deep in traffic, debt, e-mails and basically life is ...continue
